Tape Recording IEP meetings

IEP meetings involve the private information of a student. Should parents be permitted to record their child's IEP meeting? What role should the IEP team have in permitting/not permitting the parent's recording of an IEP meeting?

I believe parents should have the right to record IEP meetings. After all, the only private information at meetings is that of the child. It should be up to the parent to record the meeting at their wish.

On the other hand, why is the DOE so concerned about tape recording meetings, do they have something to hide?

Thank you
